SEPTEMBER 17, 1960, SATURDAY, 7:00 A.M.
Field Trip, Selden’s Island
Mr. & Mrs. Herbert M. Church of “Janelia Farms” Ashburn, Virginia, have extended a cordial invitation to our group to meet at their home for a field trip to Selden’s Island. Members who attended the meeting at the Babcock’s last May will remember visiting the Island and seeing the many species of birds. We are reminded to bring our bathing suits, if the day is suitable swimming is fine. Mrs. Church has kindly offered to serve coffee … bring your lunch.
DIRECTIONS: Meet at Tyson’s Corners (Intersection Routes 7 and 123) at 7:00 a.m. For those who wish to go direct, travel 17 miles west from Tyson’s Corners on Route 7. The Farm entrance, so indicated by a sign, is on the right, two and one-half miles beyond Broad Run. Turn right and proceed until you come to “Janelia Farms.” The Church telephone number is Spring 7-2464 (Leesburg exchange).
OCTOBER 15, 1960, SATURDAY, 7:00 A.M.
Field Trip, Belle Haven
Mr. Jack Abbott has kindly consented to lead us on a field trip in the vicinity of Belle Haven, on the Potomac south of Hunting Towers. The early hour of 7:00 A.M. has been set in order to give members a chance to observe the spectacular flocks of Blackbirds which rise from the nearby marsh at daybreak.
DIRECTIONS: Meet at the Belle Haven Picnic Area, just off Mount Vernon Parkway, about one mile south of Hunting Towers Apartments, Alexandria. Turn left into the South Belle Haven parking area; after turning off, take right hand road into the Belle Haven Boat Club.
OCTOBER 26, 1960, WEDNESDAY, 8:00 P.M.
Talk with slides by Mr. Robert L. Pyle
Mr. Robert L. Pyle of Washington, D. C., former President of the Hawaii Audubon Society, will speak to us on the varied and interesting bird life and other natural features of our FIFTIETH state. Our hosts will be Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Furcolow, 2317 S. Buchanan Street, Arlington, Virginia.
DIRECTIONS: The Furcolows live in Claremont, which lies off Route 7 between Seven Corners and Shirley Highway. From the direction of Washington go out Shirley Highway to the Route 7 ramp; go right on Route 7 to 25th Street and turn right; (from points West, turn left on 25th Street); go about 200 feet in from Route 7, bear left on 23rd Street. Follow 23rd Street for four blocks, turn right on South Buchanan, thence to 2317. The Furcolow telephone number is OR 1-8497.

Mr. and Mrs. P. R. Cosminsky, 303 N. Virginia Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia, have extended us an invitation to meet at their home. At the appropriate time your key man will give you information as to the program for the evening.
DIRECTIONS: From center of Falls Church (Intersection 29-211 and Route 7), go west on Route 7 to N. Virginia Avenue. Turn right and go two and one-half blocks to 303. (Virginia Ave. jogs left on Park Avenue.)
JANUARY 11, 1961, 8:00 P.M.
Sound and color movies on Birds and Wildlife. Talk
This meeting will be held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Eike, 3307 N. Tuckahoe Street, Falls Church.
DIRECTIONS: From center of Falls Church (Intersection of Routes 7 and 29-211), go north on 29-211 to N. Fairfax Drive; turn left, drive about 3 blocks to N. Westmoreland Street. Follow N. Westmoreland to 33rd Street, turn right, go three blocks to North Tuckahoe Street; turn left and stop at the first house on the right.
CONGRATULATIONS
CONGRATULATIONS to Richard and Daniel Peacock who won several prizes in local and state-wide science fairs for their study of the rodent population at the new International Airport site at Chantilly, Virginia. Their research is being continued this year.
CONGRATULATIONS to the Bob Watson’s for presenting the chapter with its newest and youngest member, Robert Mershon Watson, born May 10, 1960.
